Why choose retroGLAZE® Replacement Windows and Doors.
Deciding whether to choose Replacement Windows and Doors over Retrofit Double Glazing can be a bit confusing, so we’ve put together a list of possible reasons why Replacement Windows and Doors may be the right decision for you:
- Deteriorated aluminium joinery (this may be noticeably pitted due to corrosion, or have powder coating flaking off)
- Old, thin joinery that does not have enough capacity to contain double glazing
- Flimsy aluminium joinery that won't hold the weight of double glazing (this could be 1960s-1970s sliding style windows)
- Old fashioned coloured aluminium joinery that you would like to change to a modern colour and finish
- Timber joinery that has significant rot, that is beyond repair (often due to lack of maintenance throughout its life)
- Timber joinery where there is not sufficient capacity to accommodate double glazing (e.g. timber sashes that are thin)
- A preference for window frame materials that require minimal maintenance (eg painting)
- You have decided that you want a completely new look or functionality (e.g. doors to change from sliding to bi-folding)
RetroGLAZE® ThermaL 4.0™ Full Replacement Windows and Doors or Insert Window solutions enable you to replace your existing windows with new thermally enhanced joinery complete with high-performing SuperTherm™ Low E double glazing.
Designed here in New Zealand for our climate, our thermally enhanced windows and doors provide superior insulating performance. This means you retain more heat inside when it’s cold outside.

What is ThermaL 4.0 joinery?
ThermaL 4.0™ is the next generation of thermally enhanced aluminium joinery developed in partnership with a leading aluminium joinery system supplier in window and door solutions here in New Zealand.
ThermaL 4.0™ joinery is thermally isolated (it has a thermal “break” positioned within the joinery which slows down the movement of heat/cold from the inside and outside surfaces of the window frame). Aluminium is a good conductor of heat/cold so it allows a large amount of cold to move from the outside of your window to the inside of your home, whilst allowing the warmth from inside your home to transfer to the outside.
By adding a material that is a poor heat conductor into the joinery profile, the transfer of heat/cold is slowed, helping to improve the thermal insulation provided by your joinery and increasing the overall performance of your window.
This thermal isolation reduces the heat transfer through the aluminium joinery, meaning the ThermaL 4.0™ frame keeps your home warmer in winter, cooler in summer and drier all year around.
When combined with our high-performance SuperTherm™ Low E glass you will have a warmer, drier home in winter and a cooler home on those hot summer days.

Timber Retroglaze Solution
Don't settle for life with deteriorated, flimsy joinery.
You should be comfortable in your own home.
It’s cold, wet and noisy outside. It shouldn’t be like that inside too.
But this is the reality of life without double glazing. You might relate:
- The winter chills have you hidden under a pile of blankets. Your old broken down joinery is doing nothing to stop the cold coming inside
- There is more rot than timber in your window frames and the maintenance required just to keep further rot developing is taking it's toll
- Bronze aluminium was all the rage in the 70's, but does nothing to accentuate the fresh new colours of your home
- Opening your sliding door takes as much strength as a weight machine at the gym that you pay good money to never attend
- The view from your living room is distorted by dated colonial bar windows. You dream of looking through large open windows.
- Your old aluminium frames are poor thermal insulators. You want to achieve the required thermal insulation of a new build today

Window wisdom.
Deciding whether to retrofit or replace your windows and doors can feel confusing, draining, or even overwhelming.
Retrofit double glazing uses your existing timber or aluminium frames, replacing the old single glazing with new double glazing, whereas replacement joinery involves removing both the existing glass and frames of your aluminium or timber windows and doors, replacing them with thermally enhanced joinery. Sick of having to dry off your window frames through winter? Do you have beautiful timber joinery, but the constant puddles are starting to cause the timber to deteriorate and rot.
With double glazing, the thermal insulation between the outside and inside is greatly improved resulting in a significant reduction in condensation, creating a warmer, drier, healthier home. Read more here…
Have you heard this term so many times but you still have no idea what retrofit double glazing actually is? Let us help!
Retrofit double glazing is the process of retrospectively fitting new energy-efficient double glazing into existing window frames that previously held single-pane glazing. Read more here….
Changes to Clause H1 in the NZ Building Code require homes to achieve a minimum energy performance. WEERS, or the Window Energy Efficiency Rating System, enables you to accurately assess the energy efficiency of the windows or glazed doors you choose. Visit the WGANZ site or read more here…
