The residential property in Lower Hutt, Wellington, presented a unique challenge for the client. The timber character villa featured a significant number of existing stained glass windows.
The client’s main concern was to preserve the natural character of the home while addressing issues of cold temperatures, noise, draughts, and security. The primary goal of the project was to retain the character and the look of the classic timber villa while upgrading the windows with high performing Low-E double glazing.
The solutions implemented during the project effectively addressed the client’s needs and concerns. By retaining the leadlights and the original stained glass with aesthetic appeal, the character of the house was preserved. The custom draught seals significantly reduced road noise, especially in the road-facing office and master bedroom.
The use of SuperTherm Warm™ double glazing allowed for a more constant temperature throughout the year, alleviating cold-related concerns. Additionally, the double glazing enhanced the security of the house, making it more resistant to break-ins and new hardware ensured smooth operation and easy opening and closing of the windows.
