Case Study: Timber Retrofit Double GlazingHeritage charm, modern comfort

Transforming an Eastbourne Villa to Modern Day Comfort.

Kaye’s 1925 timber character villa in Eastbourne is a classic example of heritage beauty, but for years it was plagued by winter chills, draughts, and intrusive street noise. Wanting to create a warmer, quieter, and healthier home without sacrificing its unique character, Kaye turned to Wellington Glass & Mirror Ltd for a bespoke solution. The result? A seamless upgrade to high-performing SuperTherm Warm™ double glazing that preserved the villa’s original stained glass leadlights, eliminated draughts, and dramatically improved comfort, all while maintaining the timeless street appeal.

This complex project involved the careful removal, restoration, and encapsulation of 17 original leadlights, the stripping and clear-coating of 46 painted windows to reveal their natural timber beauty, and the removal of colonial bars for a more open, modern feel. Every detail was considered: new hardware, digital locks for added security, and even a custom dog door for the family Labrador. The transformation was immediate – Kaye now enjoys a significantly warmer, drier, and quieter home, with beautifully restored windows that are easier to clean and maintain. As Kaye puts it, “We would 100% recommend you to anyone looking at double glazing.”
